1st Generation Mercedes-Benz SLK Class Transmission Problems

The German car maker, Mercedes-Benz, has been producing top of the line luxury automobiles for decades. They have a reputation for style and performance, and that includes their SLK series of sporty convertibles. As great as these vehicles are, however, they do encounter mechanical issues from time to time.

Some owners of these Mercedes-Benz SLKs have reported issues with the vehicle's gear shifter. At times, the gear shift seems to shake or get stuck between gears. Some owners have noticed that this occurs when they are attempting to downshift at speeds around 30 miles per hour. Other SLK owners have noted that they have experienced difficulty in trying to shift into reverse or, once in reverse, the car will not shift into drive or back into park. It is necessary at this point to turn the ignition off and restart the car. This is obviously a sign of a much bigger issue that needs to be addressed.

There could be a very simple and inexpensive solution to this transmission issue. The remedy could be something as easy as simply having the car's transmission control unit reset. Resetting the TCU can be performed by a mechanic.

If you are the owner of a Mercedes-Benz SLK Class and are having trouble with the transmission of your vehicle, you need to schedule an appointment with a German auto maintenance mechanic. A licensed and trained service expert will be able to describe to you the best course of action to take to fix the problem.
